Reconnect. Reflect. Restore.

Building connection one walk at a time.

Forest therapy, also known as forest bathing, is a nature-based practice that involves immersing yourself in the forest's sights, sounds, and smells through all of your senses. It's a conscious and contemplative experience that encourages you to slow down and appreciate the environment. Forest therapy originated in Japan in the 1980s as part of its national health program, and is inspired by the practice of shinrin-yoku, which translates to "bathing in the forest’s atmosphere” or “forest bathing.”

What you can expect…

During a forest therapy session, your guide invites you into a series of carefully-created sensory experiences designed to bring you into the present moment and connect you with nature.

Forest bathing sessions are slow paced, usually 1.5 to 2 hours in length, and the walking distance covered is less than a mile. You will spend time in slow walking and stillness (and even sitting) to connect with the natural world and experience the restorative qualities of nature.

The experience culminates in a tea ceremony where everyone has an opportunity to share their observations and experiences.

You'll leave with a practice that you can drop into whenever you need to recenter.

The benefits…

Research has shown that this evidence-based practice can have a variety of health benefits, including:

  • Mental health: Can improve depression, anxiety, self-esteem, and mood

  • Physical health: Can reduce stress levels, regulate blood pressure and pulse, and improve cardiovascular health

  • Immune system: Can boost the immune system

What is Forest Therapy?

Forest therapy does not have to happen in a forest. The practice is effective in urban and suburban treed environments, parks, gardens, and even virtually.

Jennifer Lopez

Hello everyone,

I'm thrilled to introduce myself as your Certified Forest Therapy Guide. With a rich background in criminal justice and non-profit sectors, my journey has been deeply rooted in advocating for and supporting individuals who have faced significant challenges. I hold a B.A. in Spanish and International Studies from Kutztown University and dedicated most of my adult life to public service, serving for three decades in the Probation and Parole Department, including eleven years as Deputy Chief. My work has always emphasized trauma-informed practices and gender-responsive strategies.

My passion for holistic healing and community support led me to The Forest Therapy School, where I discovered the profound impact of nature on our mental and emotional well-being. This journey has inspired me to integrate my expertise in trauma-informed care with the transformative power of nature.

As a Forest & Nature Therapy Guide, I aim to create a nurturing and restorative environment where individuals can reconnect with themselves and the natural world. Together, we will embark on a journey of healing, mindfulness, and growth, embracing the serenity and wisdom that nature offers.

I look forward to guiding you through this enriching experience and helping you find peace and rejuvenation in the beauty of the forest.

What People Are Saying

“Jen introduced me to the healing power of nature in the most beautiful and spiritual way. With her help, I embraced the natural world as a source of medicine for my soul. Throughout the journey, Jen encouraged me to engage all five senses, allowing nature to envelope me completely.

With each new experience, it felt as though the animals were cheering me on, acknowledging my progress and newfound strength. At the end of the experience, Jen had prepared a closing ceremony with tea brewed from fresh nettle. We celebrated by sharing a cup with Mother Earth, expressing gratitude for her abundance and acknowledging all she provides for us.”

— Yulanda M.

“I became aware of the interconnectedness of trees and the healing properties of trees. The invitations brought me into to the present moment, to a sense of wonder in God’s creation, to an awareness of my own connection to nature, to others, and to God. That was a piece of sabbath time for me.”

—The Rev. Sherry Deets

“My forest walk with Jen was such a great experience on many levels.  First, being guided by a person who leads from her authentic self and appreciation of nature was refreshing and helpful.

Jen's presence and facilitation blends nicely with the energy in the natural space we used for my walk.

I highly recommend this walk and Jen's skillfulness as a guide to anyone who wants to tap into their deeper sense of self and the moment, as well as have an opportunity to feel whole and supported in a positive, caring, and empowering manner.”
